Handball

Handball

This game is great for helping kids to understand the importance of looking and their movement on the pitch. During a normal football match, players are looking at their feet, running with the ball. This games forces the player to look up and try to pass up through the lines to create a shooting opportunity
Game setup
  • Setup a pitch with some small goals
  • Break your squad of players up into 2 teams
  • Provide bibs for one of the teams

The rules
This game is basically netball!
  • Player without the ball can run anywhere
  • Player with the ball MUST stand still and can only pivot on one foot
  • Teams must pass up through the team
  • When they get close enough, they attempt to throw the ball in the goal
  • If a team scores or if the ball goes behind the goal, then it is the same rule as in a normal team… The attacking team MUST retreat to the halfway line
Make it harder
  • Introduce zones (e.g. defensive, midfield, attack zones)
  • Depending on the players position, they can only move within that zone e.g. Defender, can only be in the defensive and midfield zone, Attacker can only be in the attacking and midfield zone
